Resort & local government to cooperate cleaning Phuket beach

Littering is a problem at many Phuket beaches, but several sectors are working together to fix this. There’s a new initiative between a resort, and the local government, to collect garbage on Kamala Beach. The initiative titled the ‘Proud Kamala Project’ is a joint project between the Kamala Sub-district Administrative Organisation, and the Intercontinental Phuket Resort. Foreign woman in Phuket went for night swim, locals thought she had drowned

A foreign woman in Phuket gave locals a bit of a fright last night when she went out for a swim at Kamala Beach with her dog. Fifteen minutes later, the locals saw the dog alone on the beach without the woman. Fearing the worst, they called rescue workers to help search for her. But after the rescuers arrived, the woman came up from the water perfectly fine. She apologized for worrying people since she had gone fairly far from the shore. Local man discovers skeleton at viewpoint in Phuket Town

A local man going to plant coconut trees near a viewpoint in Phuket’s main city district stumbled upon something quite unexpected – a skeleton. The local man found the male skeleton covered with a cloth at the Khao Khad Viewpoint in the Wichit neighbourhood on August 20. The uniform on the skeleton was reportedly similar to a security guard’s uniform. Wichit Police believe the man had been dead for at least six months. Phuket car suddenly catches fire

A car suddenly caught fire yesterday in the town of Chalong in Phuket. Firefighters rushed to the scene near the junction of Soi Ta-ied and Chao Fa East Road, to find the front of the Mazda sedan ablaze. Luckily, they were able to get the fire under control in only four minutes, and no injuries were reported. Still, the flames had reached the car’s interior, adding more damage. Alleged kidnapper arrested, girl reunited with parents after months

A man who allegedly kidnapped a young girl in Phuket in February was arrested in South Thailand on Tuesday. The victim, a 13 year old girl, has been reunited with her parents. The suspect, 33 year old Somsak, allegedly kidnapped the girl on Rawai Beach in the main city district of Phuket, where she had been selling flowers. The girl’s mother reported the incident on February 9. Chalong Police collected evidence and released a legal summons for Somsak, but he did not present himself to the police. Police officer who shot noodle vender sentenced to 25 years

A Phuket police officer who shot a noodle vendor on the streets of Patong when drunk last year has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for the crime which was captured on video by security cameras. The 25 year old victim is permanently disabled from the incident. Phuket police nab 3,373 meth pills from 5 suspects

After two suspects were arrested in Phuket last week for having thousands of meth pills, five more meth suspects have been arrested on August 10-11. The five men were arrested in different areas of Phuket. Altogether, police ended up seizing 3,373 meth pills. One man was arrested in the west coast town of Karon. The 31 year old man, Charin ‘Arm’ Innoom, had 1,909 meth pills. He also had two guns with two bullets. Phuket officials say no human trafficking cases found in island province

Thailand is notorious for its human trafficking problems, but a Phuket government sub-committee says it has found no human trafficking cases on the island province. The sub-committee works with the Phuket Provincial Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Action Center. At a meeting at City Hall yesterday, Phuket’s vice governor said the sub-committee’s efforts are focusing on five key areas of human trafficking: labour, prostitution, people living in poverty, and migrants, especially Rohingyas from Myanmar.     A Royal Thai Navy (RTN) Area 3 team rescued four Chinese fishermen lost at sea near Racha Noi Island in Phuket.  The owner of the fishing boat sought help from the RTN after the four Chinese fishermen, who rented his fishing boat named SAO, went to sea at 5am yesterday but didn’t come back.
