Thailand to scrap pre-arrival Covid-19 tests from April

The CCSA has announced that starting April 1, travellers arriving in Thailand from abroad won’t have to take pre-arrival Covid-19 tests (before they travel to Thailand). The scrapping of pre-arrival tests will also apply to Hat Yai airport, in addition to the current Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Krabi, Samui, Chiang Mai and U-tapao airports. A CCSA spokesman said the CCSA hopes to expand it to all airports, depending on their readiness. Visitors must still take RT-PCR tests once they arrive in Thailand. Phuket governor says island will remain open for tourists, despite rise in infections

The governor of Phuket has reassured local businesses that the island remains open for tourists under its sandbox scheme. 92 Phuket Sandbox, Test & Go travellers positive for Covid, tests to determine variant

Phuket’s Public Health doctor, Kusak Kukieatsak, says the Covid-19 test results for 92 travellers who recently entered the country from overseas are being examined to determine if they are infected with the Omicron variant. The doctor added that he believes most of the results will come back positive for the mutated strain. The travellers tested positive for Covid-19 after entering Thailand under the Phuket Sandbox and Test & Go programmes. AirAsia flights from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket return for Sandbox scheme

AirAsia has announced that it will resume its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket. This comes in the wake of Thailand’s reopening to international travelers on November 1. This flight will allow visitors to enter the country through the Phuket sandbox programme. The first flight was an Airbus A320 that took off from Kuala Lumpur at 11:15am. The route is currently being offered twice weekly. Weekly Phuket Covid-19 Update: Deaths and infections slowing

Over the past week in Phuket, Covid-19 daily infections have been slowly decreasing with 165 new infections today and no new deaths. But Sandbox infections have been creeping up with 20 new infections found in international travellers over the past week. Daily infections peaked September 21 with 254 new cases that day, and by the end of September, finally fell back below 200 per day, with today having 35% fewer infections at 165. Phuket sandbox has welcomed 42,000 international arrivals since July 1

Since the launch of the Phuket sandbox scheme on July 1, the southern island has welcomed over 42,000 foreign visitors to its shores. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has got the calculator out again and according to TAT Phuket director, Nanthasiri Ronnasiri, over 2 billion baht has been generated for the economy. “We set the target at 100,000 visitors because we thought we would have both short-and long-haul visitors. Phuket entry update October 1: Checkpoints, testing, vaccines

Starting tomorrow, the rules for entering (and exiting) Phuket are changing.
